Bio
Dr. Kathy Angell, a licensed Ph.D. psychologist for over 15 years, uses teletherapy to help many people find relief from depression, stress, anxiety and worry, eating problems, hopelessness, lack of engagement in life, lack of sleep, relationship issues and other problems. She has a caring and sensitive manner which conveys emotional safety, understanding, and a dedication to help. She is available to provide evidence-based individual and couples therapy for adults in Pennsylvania who may be feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

Dr. Angell was trained by leading experts at top-ranked U.S. programs (the Universities of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Washington and Oxford (webinar)) to provide interventions that scientific research has demonstrated to be effective for many people. By using these evidence-based practices, she works hard with those who seek her services to improve their quality of life and meet their goals for therapy.

Dr. Angell has 20 years’ experience using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, a problem-focused, time-effective therapeutic intervention with a wide body of research supporting its success in alleviating depression including bipolar disorder or manic depression; anxiety, including general anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks and panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), phobia, anxiety about illness and health, and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD); Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD/ADD), concerns about eating and weight (weight loss, bulimia, purging, binges, etc) and insomnia among other difficulties. Dr. Angell believes that the person experiencing the distress is the expert on his or her thoughts, feelings, and desired goals, and Dr. Angell has expertise on specific strategies that have been shown to be effective in decreasing these different forms of distress. Dr. Angell finds that working together, she and the individuals or couples coming to her for psychotherapy have the potential form a powerful team to help them feel happier, calmer and more satisfied with life. They accomplish this by working together to clarify goals, identify and modify thoughts and behaviors that contribute to unwanted outcomes, and learn and practice new effective skills and strategies that they can apply to everyday life.

Dr. Angell gained her expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the Center for Cognitive Therapy (founded by Aaron T. Beck, M.D., “the father of Cognitive Therapy") and the Beck Institute, the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (Dr. Edna Foa's group at Penn) for Exposure Response Prevention (ERP or ExRP), and the Centre for Research on Eating Disorders at Oxford (Dr. Christopher Fairburn) for eating problems. She gained her expertise in Gottman couples therapy from the Gottman Institute.
