The Philadelphia Behavior Therapy Association is proud to sponsor this half-day workshop with Dr. Michael Sude, marriage and family therapist and assistant professor at La Salle University. The workshop provides 3 CE credit hours in ethics.
Over the last decade, electronic communication and social media have increasingly influenced the way that individuals form and develop relationships. Therapists are communicating with clients electronically; however, there are few clear ethical guidelines and state regulations for electronic therapist-client interactions. Therapists have a responsibility to their profession to explore ethical implications and best practices of emerging trends in therapeutic relationships, such as electronic communication. This presentation will address several ethical issues for therapist use of technology in clinical practice, as well as provide best practices for therapist use of synchronous communication (i.e., videoconferencing), asynchronous communication (i.e., e-mail), search engines, and social networking sites.
After completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Michael Sude, PhD, is an assistant professor in the department of Psychology at La Salle University. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Pennsylvania and New York, and the former clinical director of a community agency in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Sude has presented and published on issues of ethics and best practices related to technology use in clinical practice. He has also conducted research related to Internet dating and use of social networking sites, and he is currently conducting research on sexting attitudes and behaviors in young adults.
The Philadelphia Behavioral Therapy Association (PBTA) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. PBTA is also an authorized provider for continuing education credits for professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and clinical social workers licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. PBTA maintains responsibility for the program and its content. This program provides three (3) CE credits in ethics. |
